SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) — After months of relentless efforts, Texas EquuSearch has officially ended its search for Clara Robinson, the 8-year-old Durant girl who was swept away by floodwaters during a Christmas Eve crash that also claimed the life of her father.
In a statement posted Monday, the nonprofit search and recovery group confirmed that ground operations concluded on February 17, 2025. Following that, specialized dive teams — both from Texas EquuSearch and dedicated local volunteers — carried out targeted underwater search missions.
“Despite every effort and countless hours invested, Clara has not yet been recovered,” the organization stated. “After conducting one final water search this past weekend, we made the incredibly difficult decision to formally conclude search operations as of Sunday, April 27, 2025.”
The tragedy unfolded on December 24, 2024, when Clara’s family SUV hydroplaned off U.S. Highway 75 in Sherman and plunged into a flooded drainage ditch. Her father, Will Robinson, 36, who served as the head coach of the Durant High School girls’ basketball team, died in the crash. First responders believe he perished while trying to rescue his daughter.
Initially led by the Sherman Police Department, the search for Clara transitioned to Texas EquuSearch after 25 days. Over the following weeks, teams battled treacherous conditions, frigid waters, and relentless currents in hopes of bringing Clara home.
While official operations have ended, hope remains. Texas EquuSearch noted that local dive teams are committed to continuing their efforts independently and that the organization remains open to restarting coordinated searches if new leads or strategies emerge.
“Our hearts are with Clara’s family and the community that rallied behind her,” Texas EquuSearch said. “We will never forget her.”
